Guides by state

Thermostat settings by state

The right thermostat settings depend on where you live. A heat pump in Florida, a gas furnace in Minnesota and an oil boiler in Maine each need different setbacks, lockouts and humidity settings. Pick your state for its climate zones, the heating most homes there use, and notes for that state.

The zone numbers come from the US Department of Energy’s building energy code map (IECC), from 1 (hottest) to 8 (coldest). For how the zones work, read thermostat settings by climate zone.
