It depends on the model. Ring Video Doorbell and Battery Doorbell accept 8–24 V AC, Video Doorbell Wired 10–24 V, and Wired Doorbell Plus and Pro need 16–24 V AC, all with a 40 VA maximum. A 16 V 30 VA transformer covers every model.

What transformer does a Nest doorbell need?

The wired Nest Doorbells (2nd and 3rd gen) need 16–24 V AC and 10–40 VA in North America. The battery Nest Doorbell can be hardwired to 8–24 V AC.

How do I find my doorbell transformer’s voltage?

Read the label on the transformer, which is often near the breaker panel, furnace, attic or garage. Or measure AC volts across the chime’s TRANS and FRONT screws while someone holds the doorbell button.

Can I replace a doorbell transformer myself?

The transformer connects to 120 V inside a junction box. If you have safely replaced a light fixture before, it’s a similar job with the breaker off. Otherwise hire an electrician.
