Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-10-29
At ThermostatWires (accessible from https://thermostatwires.com), we are committed to maintaining the privacy, confidentiality, and security of our visitors. This Privacy Policy describes how your information is handled when you visit our website, use our interactive thermostat wiring tool, explore our electrical circuit diagrams, or read our guides.
ThermostatWires is operated by Ismail Farooq, a sole proprietor based in Lahore, Pakistan, who is the data controller for the personal data described here. Contact: [email protected].
1. Information We Do Not Collect
We believe in privacy by design. You do not need to register, create an account, or provide personal details to use our services:
- Browser-Based Tool Processing: When you select terminal labels or answer system configuration questions in our thermostat tool, all matching algorithms run locally within your web browser. Your wiring inputs are not recorded or saved to our servers.
- Home Wiring Simulators: All electrical simulation circuits, toggle states, and interactive diagrams run entirely client-side using JavaScript in your browser.
2. Thermostat Photo Terminal Reader
If you choose to use our optional photo reader to detect thermostat wire letters and colors:
- Your browser resizes the photo and sends it over encrypted HTTPS to our server, which passes it to an AI vision model on Cloudflare Workers AI (our hosting provider) to read the terminal letters (such as R, C, W, Y, G) and wire colors.
- We do not store your photo. We don’t save it to any database, storage bucket or file. It is processed only to answer your request, and the result is sent back to your browser.
- We don’t use your photos to train AI models and don’t share them with anyone other than Cloudflare, which processes them on our behalf.
- To prevent abuse, the reader is rate limited. Your IP address is used only to count your requests over a one-minute window; it isn’t saved and isn’t linked to your photo.
3. Google AdSense & Advertising Cookies
We display third-party advertisements on our website through Google AdSense to help support the ongoing development, maintenance, and hosting of our free tools.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to ThermostatWires or other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to our users based on their visits to our site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- Google and its partners may also use device identifiers, IP addresses and similar technologies to measure ads and prevent fraud. You can learn more in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services and How Google uses cookies in advertising.
- Users may opt out of personalized advertising at any time by visiting Google Ads Settings.
- Alternatively, you can opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info or Network Advertising Initiative (NAI) Opt-Out. Users located in Europe may also visit Your Online Choices.
4. Amazon Associates & Affiliate Links
ThermostatWires participates in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program. When you click on an Amazon link on our website, Amazon may set session cookies on your device to track referral activity for the purpose of attributing qualifying purchases. These cookies operate according to Amazon's own privacy policy.
Our Amazon links go to Amazon.com. In Canada and most of Europe (the United Kingdom, Ireland, Iceland, Greece, Georgia, Cyprus, Malta, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Czechia, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, Romania, Bulgaria, Denmark, France, Belgium, Monaco, Andorra, Italy, San Marino, Vatican City, Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Poland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania), Amazon sends you on to your nearest Amazon store instead, so we show the links to visitors in those countries and the United States only. To decide, your browser asks our server (hosted on Cloudflare) which country your IP address is in. If that check can’t be completed, your browser uses its time-zone setting instead, which never leaves your device. We don’t log or store your IP address for this; your browser keeps only the two-letter country code in local storage for 12 hours. Your browser also remembers which product recommendations you saw recently, so it can show different ones next time. This stays on your device and is never sent to us.
5. Hosting Logs & Technical Infrastructure
Our website is hosted on Cloudflare's global edge network. When you access any web page, Cloudflare automatically records standard technical connection logs for network security, DDoS protection, rate limiting, and performance optimization. These logs may include:
- Internet Protocol (IP) address
- Browser type, version, and operating system
- Referring URL and requested page paths
- Date and timestamp of requests
These server logs are used exclusively for security monitoring, detecting malicious traffic, and ensuring reliable site delivery.
6. Managing & Disabling Cookies
Most web browsers allow you to control cookie preferences through their settings. You can configure your browser to block cookies, notify you when a cookie is placed, or delete existing cookies. To learn how to manage cookies on popular browsers, visit the official support documentation for Chrome, Safari, Firefox, or Microsoft Edge.
7. General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) Rights
If you are a resident of the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have specific data protection rights under the GDPR and UK GDPR. Our legal basis for processing technical server logs is our legitimate interest in securing and maintaining our service (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). For advertising cookies, processing is based on your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR). Visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland are shown a consent message, provided through Google’s certified consent management platform, before personalized ads are served, and can change their choice at any time through the Privacy and cookie settings link at the bottom of every page.
You have the following rights:
- Right of Access: You have the right to request copies of any personal data we hold about you. (We don’t run user accounts or store tool inputs, so in practice we hold very little.)
- Right to Rectification: You have the right to request correction of inaccurate data.
- Right to Erasure: You have the right to request deletion of your personal data.
- Right to Restrict or Object to Processing: You have the right to restrict or object to our processing under certain conditions.
- Right to Withdraw Consent: Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw your consent at any time.
To exercise any of these rights, please email us at [email protected]. We aim to respond within 30 days. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
8. California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA / CPRA) Disclosures
Under the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), California residents have specific privacy rights:
- Categories Collected: In the preceding 12 months, we have collected internet and electronic network activity information (such as IP addresses and device browser data) solely via technical server logs and third-party advertising cookies.
- No Sale of Personal Information: We do not sell personal information for monetary payment. However, the use of third-party advertising cookies may be considered "sharing" or "targeted advertising" under California law.
- Your Rights: You have the right to know what personal data is collected, the right to request deletion of personal information, the right to opt out of the sharing of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, and the right to non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights.
- Opt-Out: To opt out of third-party ad tracking, use the opt-out links in Section 3 or configure your browser's Global Privacy Control (GPC).
9. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA)
ThermostatWires is intended for homeowners, adult property managers, and DIY enthusiasts. We do not knowingly collect, solicit, or maintain personal information from children under the age of 13. If you believe that a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately so we can remove the information.
10. Contacting Us About Privacy
