What’s different about wiring the Amazon Smart Thermostat

The Amazon Smart Thermostat is built for simple systems: one heat stage and one cool stage, or a single-stage heat pump with one aux stage. It doesn’t support second stages, dual transformers (Rh/Rc) or dual fuel. If your old thermostat has wires on W2, Y2 or both Rh and Rc, choose a different model.

It needs a C wire. Without one, Amazon’s C-wire power adapter goes in at the furnace: the wire that was on G moves to C, and the Y wire moves to K, which carries both cooling and fan.
